Complaint about robots or taffic in Johannesburg? Who u gonna call?

I always feel it’s up to all of us to take action more often and not just grumble.  If nobody, for example, reports an out of order traffic light, how do you expect it will be fixed?  I guess we all assume somebody else has taken the trouble to call in or complain.  Here are some details where you can report something out of order – or complain - if you do see robots out of order or have traffic issues and you live in Johannesburg, Sandton or Fourways – the Johannesburg Roads Agency can be e-mailed at hotline@jra.org.za or faxed at 011 2985173. You can also call 011 375-5555.

Traffic light on the corner of Oak Avenue and Harley in Randburg has been out of order for two months. I have sent and email to Jhb and got a reply in December that a team will be sent there to fix the lights. Nothing has happened. I have since tried to follow up three times to there hotline but no-one replies

Do not bother to phone this number. The people working there is very rude and extremely slow. They are blaming the system that it is the system that is slow, but I think it is the people who is slow. I reported a robot which is out of order for the past 2 weeks. Hopefully it is not going to take 2 year to fix.

Hi! There's a new 'Taxi rank' on the island between the lanes on Grayston Road, corner West. This causes traffic jams especially during peak hours, as they make u-turns and cut into traffic as only taxi's do. Is this even legal?

Can someone please assist on the Main Road, Bryanston from the William Nicol, Main Raid intersection upto Sandton Medi Clinic. I am a female travelling alone to work at 06h00 when it is still dark. It is a total nightmare, most mornings getting to work traumatised. Taxi Drivers do not stop at red robots. If you are in their way, they will take you out!! Passing vehicle on the left going through red robots. If you dare get in their way, they will hoot, shout, swear, flash and drive you off the road. Also overtaking vehicles at a red robot at the intersection and crossing over. PLEASE PLEASE!!

I have faxed and emailed the JRA about the robots being out on bowling and south every day for a week. Yesterday they came and fixed a robot that is about 20 meters away, but ignored this robot. The fax number never answers, just in case you're wondering.

Tried calling to report a traffic light that has been out for 3 weeks. I was put on hold - but I can't bear to listen to that music all day while your agent does whatever is more important (waiting for me to get bored and hang up probably).

The lights on the corner of New Road and R101 in Midrand have been out. Not a problem over the holidays, but will cause havoc as everyone returns.

Please attend to the robots that have been out now for 3 months. Someone is really going to get hurt on this road as the Taxis have their own way in the evenings.

Good day

It is going for almost a year that the robot at the four way of Finetown has not been working.

In the mornings there are traffic officers directing traffic, however in the evening there are no officers except in the afternoons.

This is unexceptable that robots can be out of order for so long.

I some times wonder, if it has become a norm that the Deep South namely Ennerdale and Finetown be grossly neglected in this manner.

Traffic jams are an every day occurrence; due to the fact that Ennerdale has only two exits.

Residents of Ennerdale and Finetown will appreciate it greatly if this matter be resolved urgently.

Kind regards

the traffic lights has been off for more than 3 months at James street and the R558 Finetown, south of Johannesburg. absolutely no one is interested in fixing it and there is huge build up of traffic coming in and out of Lenasia and Ennerdale. the are no traffic cops either to assist with the problem.

The traffic light outside the estate where I stay has been out of order since I moved in a year ago. It is the intersection of Acacia rd and Republic rd. On the 24th of December I was involved in an accident because of it. Since then I have sent 6 emails and have reported it 3 times telephonically. Each time I have been assured that it will be fixed in 48hours but the lights have still not been fixed. This is unacceptable. What channels can I follow to get this done above the JRA as they are obviously not doing their job!

Hi

I would bring to your attention that the timing on turn right arrow on the robots on the corner of ontdekkers and Hendrik potgieter have been adjusted. This is causing severe backlog of traffic right up till 7pm. there little to no traffic on the oncoming lane....traffic is backed up for atleast 2 or 3km.

I am sick and tired of this, JRA officials who putt stamp for Building line relaxation, are full of themselves and undermine people , i think i was unfairly treated when they had to take me back telling me that my plan is not correct , just when another official told me to draft it using the same format. This is for a billboard i showed exactly what we are proposing and all the neccessary measurement with a plan from building control.

I travel from Sandton to Alberton, without any major delays, only to experience daily traffic on the Swartkoppies offramp, off the R59. The timing of the robots has to be adjusted, as vehicles turning onto Swartkoppies (from R59 - coming from Sandton), have to wait for at least 4-5 robot changes at a time.
This is bordering on ridiculous as most traffic is coming from the offramps and not from Swartkoppies itself.

Robot out - cnr. Maude and Rivonia road - 3 weeks now
Robot short timing - cnr. Zinnia and Marlboro drive - 3 weeks +
Robot short timing - cnr. Katherin street and Westbrook place 2 years +

with an extra 400,000 sqaures of space being built in sandton over the next 3 years - sandton will grid-lock

I would like to report an incident of one of the workers who was working with a team on the lights at the corner of Swartkoppies Rd and Klipriver Road this morning.

At around 11h15 I cam from Klipriver Rd south towards Swartkoppies Rd and took the slipway onto Swartkoppies Rd.

A worker standing next to the truck on the island at the robots - in full view of oncoming traffic - proceeded to start urinating on the grass patch in the middle of the road !!

As I drove past ( after nearly going off the road) I hooted at the man who obviously could not stop his actions.
I was disgusted !!!!
Please investigate and take this matter further.
Thank you

Two robots have been out of order on Edenvale Rd near the off ramp from N12. for several days now. Surely after one full day a technician should be sent to repair them. If this is not done then a Pointsman should be there during peak hours. or can a trained person not operate the robots manually during these hours ?
This stop start mode also wears out clutches as well as using more petrol.Perhaps we could manage two cars deep or even more to proceed and not just one at time. Is there no way to communicate with the road user as to what is being done to correct the problem. and the estimated time to sort it.-with knowledge a different route could be chosen the following day and those who have no choice more patience knowing that it is being attended to.

Why is it that everytime it rains there is a robot not working,

The robots at the intersection of Klipriver Drive and Swartkoppies road in the Alberton area are always going out, they have been out since Sunday the 18th of Feb 2012. They were back on Wednesday evening 22 Feb 2012, and are now out AGAIN, these robots are the worst ROBOTS along Klipriver Drive and are OFF more they are working.

What is the problem, can't the staff involved in the repairs and maintenace fix a stupid fault like a leak in a seal or a loose connection or even a faulty cable in the ground.

COME ON GUYS this is really BAD service.

FIX THIS PROBLEM !!!!

This is really disgussting service and all the tax payers are payin for peatrol taxes and other types of thing for this type of quality

Please someone do something about the robot in Katherine Street – 171 Katherine street- Liberty life buildings and opposite Barlow word. In the mornings the traffic is backed up all the way down to Marlboro because this traffic light. The traffic light works but is not changing according to the flow of traffic so the traffic going down the road is backed up because the robot hold up all the traffic from flowing.

It takes an Hour in the morning between 8-9 to pass over this traffic light until the traffic runs smooth again.

JRA, if they are about meeting some min requirement specs for the uptime of robots should implement a working process whereby one reports a faulty robot and the result is that someone either mans that robot or the thing gets fixed within 30 min. The pointsmen that are at the intersections sometimes cause more harm than when they were just not there: these people must be trained as well to operate at least as good as a robot. These are such simple things to implement and yet: nothing vaguely efficient is put in place. NOT WORKING ROBOTS IS THE SINGLE BIGGEST CAUSE OF WASTE IN JHB

Allison  said...

I phoned today to report traffic lights down on Malibongwe Drive from President Fouche Intersection to across the N1. I phoned directly to Lloyd Ramuki from Johannesburg Road Agency on 011 298 5279 to avoid holding on for so long to speak to an agent at the City of Johannesburg number (011 375 5555).

These robots are down at least 3days a week and when they are down traffic is held up from about 2km away. When the robots are working (which is hardly ever) it takes you 5min to get from President Fouche intersection across the N1, whereas when they are not working it can take you 30min. So I have to leave home 30min earlier just incase the robots are not working. I just hope those robots will be fixed soon.

Corné  said...
on Wednesday 06-Jan-10 03:54 PM
It's obviously stupid to think that someone else is probably doing something about the problem. Robots that are out of order has got a lot to do with the amount of accidents on the road and every self-respecting citizen should take it upon themselves to do something about it.
