The Fund have been busy with a media campaign recently again aimed at highlighting fraud. The Citizen reported on one of its own employees funneling salaries her way.....
The Asset Forfeiture Unit on Tuesday seized the assets of a former employee of the Road Accident Fund who is accused of fraud.
“The assets seized include property in Pretoria as well as two luxury motor vehicles estimated at approximately R240 000,” said the AFU in a statement on Tuesday.
They belonged to Ipeleng Swartland, who was employed by the RAF as a remuneration officer. She is suspected of defrauding the fund’s salary account.
She is is presently out on R10 000 bail.
She was arrested in July on charges of fraud. She is thought to have channelled the fund’s moneys into her personal bank account under the pretext they were genuine employees salaries.
“Investigations revealed that several payments were made into different account holders names bearing the same account number.
“It also revealed that the Absa account used for the payments did not appear to have ever belonged to an employee of the RAF, but belonged to Swartland,” the AFU said.
The RAF has been dogged with allegation of fraud and corruption over recent years and was once said to be technically bankrupt.
I love they way the said "once said" to be technically bankrupt.
